Bio: Sean Mac
It would seem that fate put a guitar into the hands of Sean Mac. Not every day do you find a shiny black acoustic Ephiphone guitar lying on the side of a dirt road in the forest. But that’s exactly how it all started for Sean. It would be a few years before he actually started playing though. An injury at work landed him stuck at home for two weeks with nothing to do. Not wanting to watch TV all day, Sean decided to try something he’d always wanted to. He dug out that old black Ephiphone from the garage, bought a lesson book and some new strings, then started playing. He fell in love with the instrument immediately, and it’s all history from there…

A few years later Sean began to take music very seriously and enrolled in lessons from guitarist Paul David in Mesa, AZ. Six years later, he’s still with Paul soaking up all the knowledge he can, learning many styles including: Rock, Jazz, R&B, Classical, and Latin. He enjoys playing all styles, especially jazz, but his heart belongs to the energy and raw sound found only in rock music, “I try to write within the context of rock while pulling in different elements of sound from other genres.”

Along the way Sean has been in a few bands, both cover and original. His favorite project to date is local AZ rock band Broken Monk, which he founded and directed. Other high points in his musical career include being hired by Waymaker Records as the lead guitarist for the Nichole Deborah Band, and being hired as a “local celebrity judge” for a recent 13-week long American Idol-type competition hosted and sponsored by Famous Sam’s, Starz Entertainment, The Edge 103.9 and Budweiser.

Currently Sean is working for Southwest Artist Management, which does some local booking, but mainly manages the small jazz record label Ravenswave Recordings, owned by well-known local jazz pianist Bob Ravenscroft. Sean hopes to continue his learning career by someday returning to college for a Masters degree in a music related field. Until then Sean plans to continue taking lessons from Paul David, working on many recording projects, and begin teaching new students of the guitar.

Personal Statement:
“The music business is extremely competitive and it’s nearly impossible to ‘make it’ big. However, I believe that music (and art) is a terribly important part of our humanity, one that is often overlooked. More important than finding money or ‘commercial success,’ music should be used to find peace and inner harmony. As part of my goal and personal mission in life, I aspire to spread the joy and appreciation that I have found in music to all others. I will strive to reach this goal by performing, writing, teaching, and telling the many tales of my musical experiences. Although often placed in the context of competition, music is a feeling and an experience, to be lived and celebrated by all.”
